A "swept yard" was typically kept neat and clean using straw sagebrush brooms. *In Chapter 4., the term "scuppernongs" is used. A "scuppernog" is a golden-green grape of the South. *I do not remember in which Chapter (10 or 11), but a sentence appers with a reference to a picture of "Dixie" Howell in a magazine.
